NEWS IN THE CRUISER LINE
Harley-Davidson®  Softail® bikes  combine modern power and technology with authentic American style to offer a pure driving experience. New for the Softail 2021 models is the legendary Fat Boy®  114 with a new style in shiny chrome. The six Harley-Davidson Softail models vary in style from classic to custom.

The Harley-Davidson Softail chassis offers the look of a  classic hardtail frame, but is supported by a modern suspension for smooth handling and excellent handling. A single coil-over damper   between the frame and the swing arm is out of sight below the seat. The chassis design is optimized to reduce weight without sacrificing rigidity. The rigidly mounted Milwaukee-Eight V-Twin engine further strengthens the entire chassis and contributes to a platform that offers strong acceleration and excellent handling and braking performance.

The Milwaukee-Eight® V-Twin engine design with a 45 degree cylinder angle maintains the classic Harley-Davidson look-sound-feel. As it is rigidly mounted on the chassis, the engine is equipped with double counterweights to cancel the primary vibration and allow greater comfort for the driver and passenger. Double spark plugs ensure more complete combustion to maximize power and efficiency. The advanced design of the heads, detonation sensors and precise cooling allow a compression ratio of 10:1. The unique valve control helps to reduce mechanical noise so that a richer exhaust tone predominates.

THE  HARLEY-DAVIDSON®  RDRS SAFETY ENHANCEMENTS  ARE DESIGNED TO INCREASE CONFIDENCE THE DRIVER

The  Harley-Davidson®  RDRS Safety Enhancements  (formerly known as RDRS) are a collection of technology designed to increase driver confidence during unexpected situations or poor road conditions. The  RDRS Safety Enhancements  have been designed to match the bike’s performance with the available traction during acceleration, deceleration and braking, straight or curved. The systems are electronic and use the latest chassis control, electronic brake control and engine technology.

RDRS Safety Enhancements are technologies developed by Harley-Davidson and designed to make motorcycling more intuitive,” says Theo Keetell, VP Marketing.“ Our intention is to help drivers at all levels, in an unforeseen moment, when electronic intervention can react more quickly and with more precision than our own reflexes. A situation that activates an RDRS Safety Enhancement can be rare, but if it does, this technology can be very important”.

RDRS Safety Enhancements are standard on all Harley-Davidson Touring and CVO ™ models after 2020 in Brazil.

Important note: the available traction is determined by the road / tire interface. RDRS Safety Enhancements on motorcycles are only able to adjust the brake pressure or torque of the engine in an attempt to prevent the forces on the tire from exceeding the available grip. These technologies do not have the ability to increase grip or to intervene when the rider does not apply a brake or accelerator (for example, decelerating in a curve with the clutch disengaged). RDRS Safety Enhancements on motorcycles do not have the ability to directly influence the vehicle’s direction. This is a key difference between RDRS Safety Enhancements for motorcycles and stability control in automobiles. The driver is responsible for speed and direction corrections.

Cornering Enhanced RDRS Safety Enhancements
Some  RDRS Safety Enhancements  can be “cornering enhanced” technology that is specific to motorcycles and a fundamental difference between  RDRS Safety Enhancements  and car stability / traction control systems. Harley-Davidson motorcycles equipped with  RDRS Safety Enhancements  have an inertial measurement unit, or IMU, which measures and reports the angle of inclination of motorcycles when cornering. Since many bikes have different sized front and rear tires, when the bike leans into a curve, the wheels start to turn at slightly different speeds. The “patch” Tire traction – the part of the tire that actually touches the pavement – also changes as the bike tilts around a curve. Cornering enhanced technology takes this into account and, for optimal performance, it intervenes differently when the bike is tilted compared to when the bike is upright.

RDRS Safety Enhancements
Cornering Enhanced Electronic Linked Braking (C-ELB)
This technology applies braking effort to both wheels when the rider uses the manual brake lever (front) or pedal (rear), which can help many riders achieve better braking performance. The C-ELB system offers more responsiveness and allows for more balanced front and rear braking under a wide variety of braking applications. The system provides more connection when the rider applies stronger braking and reduces or eliminates the connection for light braking and low speeds. When connected, the application of the front brake lever will cause the system to also dynamically apply a quantity of braking to the rear. Applying only the rear brake pedal will cause the system to also apply a quantity of braking to the left front caliper. The C-ELB takes into account the angle of inclination of the motorcycle. The C-ELB will change the proportion of brake pressure between the front and rear discs when braking during curves, in an attempt to improve the bike’s ability to maintain the path intended by the driver.

This technology is standard on all Touring and CVO ™ models after 2020 in Brazil.

Cornering Enhanced Antilock Braking System  (C-ABS)
ABS is designed to prevent the wheels from braking during braking and helps the driver maintain control when braking in an urgent situation in a straight line. ABS operates independently on the front and rear discs to keep the wheels turning and prevent uncontrolled locking. The  Cornering Enhanced Antilock Braking System  (C-ABS) is a variant of ABS that takes into account the angle of inclination of a motorcycle. The brake pressure required to limit wheel slippage in curves is usually lower than the pressure required for straight-line operation.

This technology is standard on all Touring and CVO ™ models after 2020 in Brazil.

Cornering Enhanced Traction Control System  (C-TCS)
The  Cornering Enhanced Traction Control System  (C-TCS) is designed to prevent the rear wheel from turning excessively under acceleration when making a turn. The C-TCS can improve driver confidence when available traction is compromised due to wet conditions, a sudden or unforeseen change in the surface or when riding on an unpaved road. The rider can select one of two traction control modes: the standard mode is optimized for dry surfaces; The rain mode is optimized for wet surfaces. The system can also be turned off. The action of the C-TCS is also adjusted on the curves based on the angle of inclination.

This technology is standard on all Touring and CVO ™ models after 2020 in Brazil.

Drag-Torque Slip Control System  (DSCS)
Cornering Enhanced Drag-Torque Slip Control System  (C-DSCS)
The  Drag-Torque Slip Control  System (DSCS) is designed to reduce excessive sliding of the rear wheel under deceleration, which normally occurs when the driver makes an abrupt downshift or abruptly decelerates on wet or slippery surfaces. When the DSCS detects excessive sliding of the rear wheel under deceleration, it adjusts the torque delivery of the engine to better match the speed of the rear wheel with the speed of the road. In models equipped with C-DSCS, the DSCS action can be adapted in curves, based on the angle of inclination detected.

This technology is standard on all Touring and CVO ™ models after 2020 in Brazil.

Hold Control Vehicle  (HCV)
The  Vehicle Hold Control  (HCV) implement and maintain brake pressure when activated and prevents the bike from sliding after the rider releases the brake controls. The HCV’s main function is to prevent the motorcycle from moving, for example, at a traffic light located on a hill, or on a sharp descent from a parking lot, for example. The HCV is designed to facilitate driving with confidence, minimizing the number of controls required to move smoothly. The system applies the brake pressure until the driver activates the accelerator and the clutch to move. The HCV can also be activated when the motorcycle is stopped on a flat surface if the rider wants to maintain his position without applying pressure to the brake control.

The rider activates the HCV by momentarily applying extra pressure to the front brake lever or the rear brake pedal after the motorcycle has come to a complete stop. If the driver brakes too hard until he stops and maintains the brake pressure after stopping, the HCV can also be adjusted without any additional compression. An HCV indicator light will illuminate to confirm that the rider has activated HCV and the ABS system will maintain brake pressure after the rider releases the brake control. The HCV is automatically deactivated when the rider starts to advance or apply and release one of the brake controls.

The HCV should never be used as a replacement for the parking brake, as it will also be disengaged if the rider lowers the sidestand or changes to neutral, or if the engine is off. In most situations, after five minutes, the indicator light will flash and the HCV will be released if there is no action by the driver.

This technology is standard on all Touring and CVO ™ models after 2020 in Brazil. The HCV is not intended to replace the parking brake in any situation .

Tire Pressure Monitoring System  (TPMS)
TPMS alerts the driver to the low tire pressure. Maintaining proper tire air pressure is important for both vehicle performance and tire life. The TPMS displays the current pressure of the front and rear tires on the Boom! ™ Box GTS screen (or on the odometer on Road King ® models) and displays an indicator to alert the driver when tire pressure is low and should be checked.

This technology is standard on all Touring and CVO ™ models after 2020 in Brazil.
