Focused on dance as an experience producing knowledge and events, dedicated to promoting the creation and diffusion of contemporary dance, woven into the articulation between professional artists, guests, researchers and the public, the 11th Multiple Dance – International Festival of Contemporary Dance between the 24th and May 30, entirely online, offers four workshops given by five professionals between May 25 and 30, at different times.
With certificates, free registrations and 25 vacancies (100 in total) conditioned to a selection process with the sending of a short curriculum, the classes ensure different audiences and approaches. The festival is made possible by the Elisabete Anderle Culture Support Award – 2020.
“Sankofa – Dance as a Present” is under the responsibility of Orun Santana (PE), “Multiple Critics” is taught by Néri Pedroso (SC), “Dance in Words: Experience with Audio Description” by Lilian Vilela (SP) and the dancers Denise Namura and Michael Bugdahn, from Cie. To Fleur de Peau (France), they propose “Dancing Our Stories”, the result of which wins a presentation show.
Orun Santana, artist, dancer, capoeirista, teacher, researcher in dance and afro culture from Recife (PE), structures the concept of the workshop in his dance research entitled “Ancestralidade do Presente”, in which he uses the principles of dance of the orixás and the acogny technique of African dances as an investigative method of the body in sankofa, which portrays a bird firmly on the ground, its head back, and symbolizes the need to look at the past, access the history lived to learn. Ancestral body, primordial dance that emerges in the construction of a relationship with time, the dancer teacher wants students over the age of 16 because he proposes a practical dance experience. “Moving time within us, building new gifts for ourselves”, Explains Santana to whom the ancestral movement is anchored in time, creates a connection of the past present in the body, builds new futures.
The “Multiple Criticism” workshop serves students, artists, researchers, teachers, spectators, opinion makers and those interested in the practice of a critical text. In the light of the age of communication, from a theoretical reflection on the role of criticism, it brings together criticism and creation in the emergence of a repertoire in tune with contemporary dance. Each two-hour meeting is given by journalist Néri Pedroso, also one of the articulators and press officer of Múltipla Dança. She wants to share her experience in cultural journalism in the role of editor and coordinator of notebooks in which she has always maintained a cast of critics, as she understands that artistic production requires legitimation and careful analysis that allows thinking about creation from another perspective, in addition to mediating views between artists and spectators, as well as producing memories about works and events.
A differentiator of the 11th Multiple Dance is to emphasize the desire for critical texts. Participants are invited to experiment, they can produce a text about the 11th Multiple Dance with a focus on a show, workshop, dialogue, conference, any of the actions or on the whole festival. Of the set, appreciated by an editorial committee, five texts will be paid – R $ 300.00 – and will be published on the Midiateca de Dança and Conectdance websites. In addition to Néri Pedroso, the committee has dance critics Ana Francisca Ponzio and Sandra Meyer.
