São João Batista (SC), Riachinho (MG) and Palmeirina (PE) join the Strong Families program

The initiative proposes actions to strengthen family bonds, involving parents and children in a dynamic of encounters. With the inclusion of the three municipalities, Familias Fortes is present in 56 Brazilian cities and carries out tests for expansion in the virtual modality.

Pilot project

Familias Fortes activities take place in two moments. In the first, parents or guardians meet in one room and children aged 10 to 14 in another. Adults are taught to clarify expectations based on developmental norms for children and adolescents, use appropriate disciplinary practices, manage strong emotions, and communicate effectively.

Children, on the other hand, learn skills for personal and social interaction, such as having goals that give meaning to life, following rules, recognizing their parents’ difficulties and qualities, dealing with peer pressure, knowing how to identify positive role models and helping others.

In the second part of the meeting, parents and children meet in the same room where they practice the skills they have learned. They work on conflict resolution and communication and engage in activities to increase family cohesion and the children’s positive involvement in the family.

To conduct the meetings, the facilitators have a manual with details of all the activities and videos that address the topics to be worked on with the families.
