ABELHA, in partnership with the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio), makes available on its website catalog files of 15 species of stingless bees relevant to Brazilian meliponiculture.
In addition to popular and scientific names, the sheets present information on the biology and general behavior of the species. It also brings images of two types: of specimens deposited in the Entomological Collection “Prof. JMF Camargo” (RPSP), from FFCLRP/USP, and live specimens photographed by biologist Dr. Cristiano Menezes, from Embrapa Environment, preserving the natural color of the bees.
Another information present in the sheets is the geographic distribution of the species of bees in the States, according to the National Catalog of Native-Stingless Bees published by Ordinance No. 665 of ICMBio.
The material can be downloaded for free and is intended for any stingless bee enthusiast, be they meliponiculturists, biologists, agronomists, educators, students, environmental specialists and the general public, interested in knowing more about the richness of species of bees without stinger that we have in the country or in starting meliponiculture.
