Civil society presents a Letter of Commitment to Sustainable Mobility to candidates from Santa Catarina
This week, candidates for the government of the State of Santa Catarina, the Legislative Assembly and the National Congress are receiving from the hands of civil society a set of 23 proposals to improve conditions when traveling on foot, by bicycle, public transport and of inclusive mobility in the State of Santa Catarina.
These are proposals that aim to recover the historical delay of public policies aimed at those who cannot, do not need or do not want to get around by car or motorcycle – which means more than half of the population, including children and the elderly.
Among these proposals, the following stand out: “Search for the implementation of adequate cycling routes and sidewalks on state highways, in accordance with State Laws No. solutions for the expansion of rail transport”. According to the Administrative Director of AMOBICI, Ana Destri, “the initiative intends to take advantage of the moment of the elections to raise the importance of cleaner, more economical and fairer modes of mobility”.
The proposals were presented in the form of a “Commitment Letter”, that is, aiming at the commitment of candidates if elected. The proposals were prepared by consulting the members of the organizations involved in the construction of the letter.
The “Commitment Letter” is an initiative of the organizations: AMOBICI – Mobility by Bicycle and other Sustainable Modes, Jane Jacobs Floripa Walk, Bicicleta na Rua and the UFSC Accessibility Committee, all from Florianópolis, which participate in the Sustainable Mobility in Elections Campaign , coordinated nationally by the organizations Cidadeapé , Association G-14 Support for Poliomyelitis Patients and PPS, IDEC – Brazilian Institute for Consumer Protection , Rede Vidas Ativas and UCB – Union of Cyclists of Brazil .
