This Friday, 01/09, another Virtual Honey Fair in Santa Catarina begins. The Fair, created in 2020, due to the pandemic, is in its fourth edition.
Due to the success, the producers decided to keep the platform active, even with the return of the Fair to the streets of downtown Florianópolis and, since then, it takes place annually in September. “In addition, with the platform it was possible to expand the sale of the best honey in the world to all of Brazil”, says the president of the Federation of Beekeepers and Meliponicultors of Santa Catarina (Faasc), Ivanir Cella.
The Fair is being organized by Faasc, Epagri, Sebrae, Faesc/Senar and UFSC and has the support of the state government, through the Secretary of State for Agriculture and Cidasc. In all, 14 producers from all regions of Santa Catarina participate in this edition. The website www.meldesantacatarina.faasc.com.br goes online from 09/01 and will run until 09/30. It is not an e-commerce, it is a platform that brings the producer closer to the consumer, with the sale of table honey and direct negotiation of other bee products.
On the site, in addition to the products, consumers will have access to eight free online courses, several tips on honey and its derivatives, in addition to three cookbooks from producers throughout the state for free download. The courses, which start on 09/05 and always take place at 7 pm, are now open for enrollment. The broadcast will be live via google meet and participants receive a certificate from Epagri.

Honey from Santa Catarina
Honey from Santa Catarina has already been considered the best in the world six times at the international congress Apimondia, which takes place every two years and this year will be held in Chile, also in September. Santa Catarina has the best productivity in the country, reaching 68 kg/km², while the national average is around 4.8 kg/km². This is the result of strong investment in technology and training by Faasc, Epagri and other institutions involved in the honey chain. The last harvest, 2021/2022 was 7.5 tons.
