Audi Q6 e-tron introduces new connected, sustainable and occupant-focused interior

  • Interior adopts a new design philosophy that will guide the four-ring brand’s next series production models;
  • Digital cockpit has a curved display for the driver, a head-up display with augmented reality and an independent screen for the front passenger;
  • Recyclable materials and three-dimensional coatings are designed to offer a feeling of space, lightness, comfort and warmth.

São Paulo, September 06, 2023 – Designed from the inside out: the interior of the new Audi Q6 e-tron, which will be launched next year in Brazil, adopts the design philosophy that will drive the interior of upcoming production models in four rings brand series. With an integral focus on the needs of users, the cockpit combines a high-contrast three-dimensional design with a spatial architecture that offers technology, aesthetics and sustainability in perfect balance. The Audi Q6 e-tron is the first in the manufacturer’s model series to adopt the newly developed premium electric platform, or Premium Electric Platform (PPE) in English.

“Digitalisation, sustainability, freedom and new ways of using time – we unquestionably live in an exciting time in the history of automobile design. Therefore, it is an ideal time for brave and creative minds to ask innovative questions and leave the path already trodden until now. It’s time to find smart answers in new places,” says Audi head of design Marc Lichte. “One of these questions forms the starting point of our new design process: what do our customers want to experience in and with their vehicle?

“By understanding the interior as the center of our customers’ lives and experiences, we uniquely shape the vehicle’s space, architecture and functions to their needs and desires, designing the vehicle from the inside out. With the Q6 e-tron, we are giving concrete shape to our vision in the present”, concludes Lichte.

Cab with integrated design

The interior with clear structures emphasizes the cozy atmosphere. The so-called “Softwrap”, which covers the lower part of the center panel with a choice of different materials, extends from the doors and crosses the entire cockpit to the center console, creating a feeling of homogeneous space. High quality colors and materials, some of them made from recycled materials, are also used for the seats.

In this way, all cab components are integrated as a single space. All materials, from soft to glossy black parts, have been selected with functionality in mind and highlight different parts of the cabin through design.

The interior trim now becomes a functional design element. In addition to providing a sense of spaciousness, such a philosophy creates clarity, comfort and warmth. Narrow horizontal air vents harmoniously contribute to the look. A set of controls are integrated into the driver’s side door handle and blend seamlessly into the cockpit. It has the most important functions like mirror settings, seat and door functions, and light and visibility settings.

Sustainable aesthetics

Some of the materials used in the so-called “Softwrap” are sustainably produced, such as the recycled Elastic Melange fabric, which is made from 100% recycled polyester. Sports seats with contrast stitching are also optionally available in Elastic Melange. The Argument fabric, in turn, is available as an option for the seats and for the headliner.

Premium Electric Platform (PPE)

The Audi Q6 e-tron embodies Audi’s DNA and strikes a perfect balance between driving performance, charging and technical innovation. Thanks to the new PPE platform, specially developed for electric mobility, the vehicle also has a spacious interior that is highly suitable for daily use, with several niches and storage compartments.

The center console has two cup holders, a tray and two smartphone charging ports. As is characteristic of electric vehicles without a central tunnel, there is extra space for the legs, prioritizing the mobility of the occupants.

The trunk offers 526 liters – when the rear seats are folded down, space rises to up to 1,529 liters. The rear seats fold down individually (40:20:40) and there’s an additional 64 liters of space under the front bonnet.

Independent curved display

The interior is dominated by the “digital stage” with the Audi MMI panoramic display and the MMI front passenger display. The displays are perfectly integrated into the design concept and give the interior a spacious and airy feel. The Audi MMI panoramic display features a curved design and features OLED technology. The screens feature an 11.9-inch Audi virtual cockpit, in addition to the 14.5-inch MMI touch display. The curved screen is reminiscent of the Singleframe, Audi’s identity, and the ambient lighting makes the curved screen appear to float at night.

For the front passenger, optionally, the digital stage is individually complemented by a 10.9-inch MMI display, which is perfectly integrated into the dashboard design. A privacy mode allows the passenger to watch movies without distracting the driver. At the same time, it allows the passenger to help the driver, for example, with navigation.

The head-up display with augmented reality represents a significant advance in technology and shows relevant information such as speed, road signs and assistance and navigation icons. The virtual image creates the impression that the displayed items are floating up to 200 meters away and interacting with the environment. The driver can understand how the screens work even in low visibility conditions.

Interactive lights inside

Internally, there are interactive lights (IAL) that help the car interact with its occupants in three core functions. Among them, the welcome function, the indication of when the vehicle is locked and unlocked.

IAL also helps with safety: for example, it visualizes dynamic turn signals. However, the IAL remains an additional display and does not replace the turn signals in the virtual cockpit. Lastly, it also visualizes other information such as charge level display and charging progress shown as a pulsing light.

Audi self-learning voice assistant and built-in app store

The new electronic platform ensures that Audi customers experience vehicle digitization more than ever before. As the first vehicle based on the new E3 architecture, the Audi Q6 e-tron series is equipped with a fully connected digital interior.

Various functions are now intelligently linked together, allowing for a new interior experience and innovative features. At the same time, Audi is introducing a completely new and seamless infotainment platform in the Audi Q6 e-tron, developed with software company CARIAD.

The model also has a high degree of connectivity. For example, users can control many vehicle functions using Audi’s self-learning voice assistant. Deeply integrated into the vehicle, the assistant is now represented for the first time by an avatar on the dashboard (“Audi Assistant Dashboard”) and the augmented reality head-up display.

The user activates the assistant with the phrase “Hey, Audi”. It can also be activated via a number of other touchpoints and the myAudi app. The new display and operating concept allows the driver to search for the nearest charging station via voice dialogue and select from the list via the touchscreen.

Spoken commands are also shown on the display and the digital assistant continuously learns from user behavior to provide the best experience possible. This support can be divided into three categories: proactive suggestions (contextual information is used to suggest functions for activation in a proactive and situational way), intelligent routines (recurring operational sequences are automated, such as the use of air conditioning in the seats according to certain outside temperatures) and smart lists (such as call lists).

Thanks to an app store, users can also use many of their favorite apps directly on the vehicle’s screen. By incorporating the store, which was jointly developed with CARIAD and its partner Harman Ignite, customers can directly and intuitively access popular applications via the MMI touchscreen. Selected apps are installed directly into the Audi infotainment system – no smartphone required. Users can also interact with your apps through voice commands.

Acoustic precision of 3D sound system

The Bang & Olufsen Premium sound system with 3D sound, optional in the Audi Q6 e-tron, offers maximum acoustic precision. Music is heard exactly as it was recorded – for a natural and impressive sound experience. A highly efficient amplifier is at the heart of the Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound System. It drives 22 speakers with 830 watts. Four are integrated into the headrests of the front seats, a design that allows Audi to introduce so-called sound zones for the first time.

The bass speakers in the front doors are housed in a separate box, causing less vibration in nearby areas and ensuring that sound is reproduced with great accuracy. This improves sound quality and reduces sound propagation outside the vehicle. Speaker decoupling also delivers accurate, punchy bass. Illuminated letters stage the sound system at night.

With this multifaceted interior, which Audi recognizes as “the center of our customers’ lives and experiences”, the Q6 e-tron fulfills its users’ needs through design and technology in ways never before possible.
