Students from Lages (SC) participate in the 1st Social Innovation Marathon

With the aim of proposing solutions to emerging social problems, students from Colégio Bom Jesus Diocesano gather for two days to develop ideas, in workshops with mentoring and evaluations. The theme of the event is “From Virtue to Attitude, 20 years of stories”

Colégio Bom Jesus Diocesano, in Lages (SC), will hold the 1st Social Innovation Marathon on the 15th and 16th of September. Students from the 8th grade of elementary school to the 3rd grade of high school should propose solutions to the adversities that most impact society, such as poverty, inequality, social exclusion, limited access to basic services, among others.

The objective of the event, whose theme is “From Virtue to Attitude, 20 years of stories” – in reference to the College’s project that completes two decades in 2023 – is to awaken and boost creativity and social entrepreneurship among students, who will have the opportunity to work in multidisciplinary teams, developing projects and turning ideas into actions. The proposal is not to show winners, but to encourage innovation in practice, provide integration among students and bring people together to find plausible solutions together. The evaluation will take into account the following criteria: innovation and creativity; impact and benefit; value of the solution for society; feasibility and presentation.

The manager of Colégio Bom Jesus Diocesano, Marcio Souza, emphasizes the positive results that projects like this bring to students. “The impact is in several aspects that encompass the student and their three relationships: the ‘I’, the ‘us’ and the ‘others’, in view of the event’s ability to bring awareness to society’s sense of belonging and , consequently, of their ills and difficulties”, he says.

Nine teams will participate in the Marathon, which will last 24 hours. Work begins at 3 pm on the 15th and ends at the same time on the 16th. The marathon schedule, which will only be announced on the first day of the event, involves workshops, presentations, content, mentoring and activities. In the end, the evaluations should select the best proposed solutions. The assessment board includes specialist professionals in the areas of the challenges. The prize will also only be revealed on the day of the event. For manager Marcio, the idea of social entrepreneurship is still not widespread. “Bringing this to light for all social actors and proposing solutions is everyone’s duty, and that’s what we want to provide, culminating in the commemoration theme of the Virtudes e Attitudes project”, he says.

Social innovation is in the DNA of Colégio Bom Jesus

This year, the central theme of the new enrollment campaign at Colégio Bom Jesus takes this idea of solidarity through virtues and attitudes. The theme “Values to inspire, virtues to live” is based on Franciscan premises and alludes to the 20 years of the Virtudes e Attitudes project. Created to reinforce human values through themes linked to the contents of each grade/year, the project goes beyond the classroom, as it involves the entire school community in real, day-to-day practices. Thus, the 2024 enrollment campaign of Colégio Bom Jesus transcends the walls of schools, reflecting on society.

Colégio Bom Jesus has open enrollment for the 2024 school year in all its more than 35 units in the states of Paraná, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. To register, just go to the nearest College unit. Through the  bomjesus.br website  , it is possible to schedule a visit to one of the schools to get a closer look at the structure and pedagogical proposal. Colégio Bom Jesus operates from Early Childhood Education to New High School, with exclusive educational programs.
