Starlink, a company known for providing satellite internet and led by billionaire Elon Musk, has backed down and decided to comply with the Supreme Federal Court’s (STF) order to block X, formerly Twitter, in Brazil. The National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) confirmed that Starlink has already suspended access to the social network, despite maintaining its criticism of the “asset freeze” imposed by the STF’s decision.
The situation is part of a growing crisis between Elon Musk and Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, which has had new developments in the last week. During this period, both the Supreme Court and Anatel have been the target of cyberattacks, intensifying the climate of tension.
At the Supreme Court, Justice Nunes Marques was appointed rapporteur for two important lawsuits related to the topic. The first, filed by the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB), challenges the application of fines to those who use virtual private networks (VPNs) to access X. The second lawsuit, filed by the Novo party, questions the suspension of the social network in the country.
